Here's Another Way To Prove That Sonnen Is Dead Against Anderson...

I always like to highlight well done videos and pictures from across the web. People are a lot funnier than the realize most of the time.

Here is another one from the Bloody Elbow community, from a guy who refers to himself as LBO.

Come on, that’s funny.

Maynard v. Diaz Likely To Headline Fight Night 20…

Yea, I know that a couple of days ago I said that it would be Josh Koscheck taking on Mike Pierce. However, this is a much better fight and deserves to main event Virginia’s card. Here’s the announcement from MMA Weekly:

Undefeated lightweight contender Gray Maynard and Ultimate Fighter season five winner Nate Diaz have agreed to square off in the expected main event of the unannounced Jan. 11 UFC Fight Night 20 in Northern Virginia.

Sources close to the bout confirmed the signing to MMAWeekly.com Tuesday afternoon. According to GracieFighter.com, the web site operated by Diaz’s manager, Cesar Gracie, Diaz has signed a bout agreement for the fight.

Looking to exact a measure of revenge, Maynard (8-0) has been on a tear through the UFC’s lightweight ranks since emerging from season five of TUF. He didn’t make it to the finals, however, submitting to a Diaz guillotine choke in the semifinal round. Following a no contest with Rob Emerson on that season’s finale, he has reeled off six straight wins. His victims include fellow contenders Roger Huerta, Jim Miller, and Frankie Edgar.

After defeating Manny Gamburyan in the season five finale, Diaz (11-4) racked up four straight victories before dropping back-to-back bouts to Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson. He got back on track in August when he submitted Melvin Guillard in the main event of UFC Fight Night 19 in Oklahoma.

Well, there isn’t much to say about this fight except that Diaz is being thrown to the wolves here. While Nate is not a bad fighter, Gray Maynard is going to be a lightweight champion some day. Diaz just submitted a wrestler from his guard against Marvin Guillard, but Maynard is the best in the game at adapting the wrestling art to MMA. He won’t get caught in an armbar. Trust me.

With A Little Help From My Friends…

Something funny happens when you work on the web all day. You start missing things that you should notice happening. Whether it’s someone’s birthday that you miss, or that tricky little computer virus or 75 that’s made it’s home in your documents folder (I’m looking at you, Stein), you start just missing stuff.

For me, it came in the form of my Facebook news feed. See, I’ve been getting a lot of invitations to join groups recently in support of my various Media Arts major friends and their projects. I’ve been just blindly accepting for the most part. However, I’d like to call attention to a couple of them that I should have awhile ago.

One of my friends from my first go around in college, Steph, has begun her own blog focusing on Long Island culture. No, I don’t mean tape up hair cuts and guys who look like the Gottis, I mean music, art and style on this island we call home. So, if you are from the area, or even if you just want to be, It’s called The Long Island Sound-Off, check it out.

In keeping it in the family, her boyfriend Jon (I never know if I should put an “h”) also runs a site of his own called Gamerology: The Science of Gaming. As someone who has written quite a bit about video games, it’s hard to make it sound convincing sometimes. They do a fantastic job over there, and write really honest, in depth reviews. It’s definitely worth a read.

They are both where we were a few years ago, So I can feel the pain of the process for them. Be sure to check them out.

The Legend of Brett Favre Just Won’t Die…

Oh my god. He did it to me again.

Yes, Brett Favre did to this me personally. I know that the people who should really be upset are 49er fans, but I remain destroyed by another Brett Favre “just having fun out there” moment.

I spend a shocking amount of my life trying to untangle to web of Brett Favre man-love that the mainstream media has spun around the average football fan. Between this column, my website, and any radio that I do, I try to preach the following doctrine: Favre has been overrated since his days as a Falcon. He throws too many interceptions and has cost his teams as many big games as he’s won. He had some great years in the late nineties, but since then, he is more of the problem than he is the solution. Yet, people in our line of work make excuses for him every day because he’s weaved this “good ol’ boy” persona that the middle of this country loves.

In last week’s column, I listed who I thought the top eleven quarterbacks in the NFL are, and it made some waves. Some people agreed with me, and most didn’t, but the thing I was happiest about was that no one brought up number four. I felt vindicated.

But, that’s the worst part about this guy. He won’t go away. Every single time I think that I’ve convinced people that he’s awful, he’s got to go and do something like this.

This week, I sat through the entirety of Favre’s pedestrian performance against a good 49ers defense. In fact, I would go as far as to say that he had become a middle man between the center and “Purple Jesus” Adrian Peterson. He routinely missed on key third downs that could have put San Francisco away much earlier in the game. After all, Favre has always been sub-par on third down because he’d rather throw it down the field and miss than take the safe completion and move the chains.

On that final drive, Favre still hadn’t been anything special. He was dinking and dunking against a prevent defense and it looked like the clock would inevitably run out on him. Going into that last play, he was 23-of-45 with 269 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He had a quarterback rating of 67, for what that’s worth.

Then, he rolls away from pressure and throws a heave downfield moments before defensive end Manny Lawson ate his soul. A play where Niners coach Mike Singletary decided to rush only three and allow Favre all the time in the world to throw. This heave that should have been intercepted had safety Mark Roman not practically had a seizure in front of the receiver that he should have been covering. A heave to a receiver that had recently been signed because of his ability on special teams. This heave that made him a national hero again.

Within moments, Favre’s face was the on the front page of every major website. The world loved number four all over again. Now, I have to mention his 311 career interceptions. I have to mention his playoff failures that almost exactly match his playoff successes. I have to mention that he isn’t the reason that Vikings were even in that game; the run defense that allowed only 58 yards on 26 rushes was.

Just when I thought I was done, Brett had to pull me back in.

White’s Twitter: Liddell and “Mask” To The UFC Hall of Fame

From MMAWeekly.com:

As the historic weekend surrounding UFC 100 draws closer, the anticipation as to who would be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame has come to an end as president Dana White announced on his Twitter page and via the UFC.com web site that former light heavyweight champion Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell and TapouT founder Charles “Mask” Lewis would be inducted this Friday at the UFC Fan Expo surrounding UFC 100.

“Hey guys Chuck Liddell and Charles ‘Mask’ Lewis will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame at the UFC Fan Expo this Friday at 6:30 p.m.,” White announced on his Twitter page.

Liddell seemed to be a shoe-in for the UFC Hall of Fame after the stunning career the California native has had during his time with the promotion. With a championship run that included four-straight defenses, Liddell has been seen as the face of the UFC for several years, and his fighting skill has always backed up the hype for his celebrity.

Speculation has run wild recently whether Liddell would call it a career after a tough run in his recent fights, but on Friday night the “Iceman” will just look to celebrate as the UFC honors him as the latest inductee into its hall of fame.

There may not have been a bigger loss to the MMA world than earlier this year when TapouT co-founder Charles “Mask” Lewis lost his life after a tragic car accident. Lewis was a giant piece of the puzzle for TapouT, which is seen as one of the most iconic brands in all of MMA.

I strongly disliked Lewis as a TV personality, but their is no doubt that he was a huge influence on the world of MMA. Not only was he a strong voice in The Ultimate Fighter, but his brand “TapouT” sponsored so many fighters that likely would have had to keep full time jobs if not for the money he gave them.

As for Liddell, There is no doubt that he deserves it. When the sport became a mainstream hit, he was the one at the helm of it all. His unique look combined with his ridiclous punching power allowed him a two year reign as Light Heavyweight champion that will only be matched when Lyoto Machida runs roughshod through the division.

However, don’t think that its over for Chuck. Randy Couture and Mark Coleman still fight despite being in the UFC hall of fame.
