UFC Fans, Roger Huerta has left the building.
After claiming that he wanted to leave the sport to pursue an acting career after his last fight, Roger Huerta received his UFC formal release this week. That allowed him to negotiate with other companies and he’s landed in Bellator, according to MMA Junkie.
Sources close to the situation confirmed to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the popular lightweight received his formal release from the UFC this week, which opened the door to finalize a deal with the upstart promotion.
Bellator has called a video press conference for Monday at 3 p.m. ET that will stream live at Bellator.com.
He’ll be part of an 8-man, multi-event tournament that will pit the winner against last year’s champ and top ten lightweight Eddie Alvarez. For those who are suggesting that Roger Huerta will walk through the competition because of his UFC experience, Don’t be so sure. Fighters like Toby Imada, and Jorge Masvidal are not going to go down without a fight.

Update:
According to Diego Sanchez’s Twitter:
“Yes I’m going back to welterweight. I’m loving my new diet. I want Kos or Fitch but any top guy will do. Just want to give you fans the best fight.”
Is Diego Sanchez considering a move back to welterweight?
The New Mexico native on Sunday night left a somewhat cryptic message via his Facebook page stating “going back up to 170.”
When contacted by MMAWeekly.com, Jeff Clark, Sanchez’s manager, indicated that there has been no official decision made at this time about what weight class he will compete in next.
A move to 170 makes sense for Sanchez. He was a decent size 170 pound fighter and a huge lightweight. It’s easy to imagine the cut to 155 wasn’t very easy for him. At lightweight there are a lot of interesting matchups for him, most notably Kenny Florian, but he already has fought the champ and lost. It’s hard to imagine Sanchez ever getting another title shot as long as Penn holds the belt.

It’s not like Sanchez didn’t have success at 170. Sanchez was 7-2 in the division, in the UFC, with his only losses being to top welterweight contenders Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck. If he moved back to welterweight full time he’d easily be the 5th or 6th best fighter in the division at worst.
Usually it’s moving down in weight that reinvigorates a career, but in Sanchez’s case moving up in weight may do the same thing.

Yes, I know. We’re behind. We’ve all been busy. Leave me alone.
While Frankie Edgar might be next in line to fight B.J. Penn, there is little support for him as the current number two lightweight in the world. Instead, most people (mainly me) beleive that honors falls on the shoulder of Kenny Florian. Florian has all the tools to be the best in the world, and showed improvement in his weakest areas, boxing and wrestling, in his last few fights.

Florian led up to UFC 101 talking about his desire to kill the master and all kinds of other talk from kung-fu movies. Now, he gets a shirt with his own samurai on it. This is the latest in the TapouT signature collection, which actually has some pretty awesome shirts that are VERY fighter specific.
MMA Warehouse has it for 27.99.

Well, how often do you see a sporting event postponed due to an injury to an important member of said event? Hell, if we could do this in the NFL, The Giants might actually have their starting D-Line back before the season starts.
Well, WEC 43 has indeed been postponed for over a month according to CageWriter:
According to a press release from World Extreme Cagefighting, next week’s WEC 43 event, scheduled for September 2 in Youngstown, Ohio, has been postponed. Benson Henderson, who was to fight for the interim lightweight belt against Donald Cerrone, suffered an undisclosed injury.
The good side of this postponement is that it gives executives from Versus a chance to work out a deal with DirecTV. The satellite television provider said it will dump Versus at the end of this month. Versus is the television home of World Extreme Cagefighting.
Henderson recently revealed that his vision is vastly improved due to surgery on his eyes, but there is no word as to whether the injury is related to his eyes.
This is already a weird situation because this fight was put together because Jamie Varner, the WEC Lightweight champ, hasn’t been able to defend his belt for nearly a year. Now, we will have to wait yet another month to see a championship lightweight fight on a WEC card.
