THQ Hints At Camp System For Undisputed

Wow, there has been a bunch of different interviews and reveals from this one event. This time, ESPN.com has some info from Neven Dravinsky, the game’s producer, about the online camp system.

This is something we’ll talk about more in-depth in the coming weeks, but the advent of Fight Camps is this really cool concept that online you can create these clans/guilds, and you’ll be able to fight with your buddies online, you’ll be able to fight other camps online, and there are leaderboards associated with that as well. I think this is really going to help expand the community even further. How cool would it be to actually fight against Craig Jackson’s camp online? I think there are going to be a lot of really cool things that come out of the Fight Camp system.

Oh my god. Yes, that sounds awesome. Yes, we’re going to put together a website camp. Yes, I look forward to making Jason quit because I’m so much better at the game than him. However, did he really just say CRAIG JACKSON!? Really?

Neven, you are dead to me.

UFC 109: Couture on ESPN

I’m a dork. Every time I see MMA on ESPN, I get giddy. Here is Randy Couture talking about Mark Coleman:

Between us, Doesn’t Randy look incredibly old? I know that he is old, but he looks worn down in this video. HD just isn’t very nice to some people.

PTI Bashing MMA Again...

I am getting so fucking sick of this. It’s such a joke. These two old men just won’t to the research necessary to understand that our sport is safer than the one that they spent most of the show talking about, football. Now, I love Football too, but it’s not safe. People are paralyzed playing football. People die in boxing rings. One person has died in history of mixed martial arts.

I wrote the other day that I really don’t care what these two say anymore, and the truth is that I simply don’t. However, when I hear it, it just makes me realize that their generation is never going to come over to our side. They will never give it a shot.

It’s sad. Instead, they would rather watch sports that kill people.

Gomi Vs. Florian Official For Fight Night 21

A long rumored fight between Takanori Gomi and Kenny Florian has been made official ESPN’s MMA Live Twitter broke the news.

Kenny Florian-Takanori Gomi expected as the main event for UFC Fight Night 21 March 31st in North Carolina.

Florian obviously has ties to MMA Live as he serves as a co-host.

Florian currently is considered the second or third best lightweight in the world. He’s coming off a very impressive performance against Clay Guida. In that fight he showcased greatly improved boxing, to go along with his Thai skills, and excellent wrestling. He stuffed Guida’s takedowns and even slammed the strong wrestler.

Gomi on the other hand is a fighter on the decline. Once unanimously considered the top lightweight in the world the Fireball Kid has lost 2 of his last 4 fights. While this is a solid main event for a Fight Night, much better then Maynard/Diaz, I’m not sure what the long term plan with Gomi is. If he beats Florian then what? He already got smoked by Penn. And if he loses then what? For Florian this is lose, lose situation. A win won’t get him closer to Penn and for the most part really anywhere. Let’s be honest outside of the Pride faithful no one knows who Gomi is. A loss would be cripling for K-Flo.

I have a therory as to why the UFC is suddenly pushing Gomi but you’ll have to wait till later today to read it.

Brock Returns This Summer Against Carwin/Mir Winner...

Why does news always happen on days where I can’t get to a computer for various reasons?

Anyway, Brock Lesnar appeared on Sportscenter this morning to discuss his future. Every time MMA news is on ESPN, I get giddy. I don’t know why, because it’s happened a bunch, but it just makes me feel like a school girl.

First thing is first, Good for Brock for getting better. I may not be the guys biggest fan, but I certainly think that he is a talented fighter. I never want to see anyone be sick like that.

Second, what does this mean for the UFC? Well, they get their cash cow back. Lesnar is the biggest draw in the UFC, and Dana is more than glad to have him back. As for the fight with Carwin/Mir, I’m pumped to see Brock back in the ring against a real test, but it would be a shame to see him at less than 100% and have him lose his belt because of it.

All in all, it’s good to have Brock back. Never thought I’d hear myself say that.

Lesnar Health Update Coming Tomorrow

In an interview with Ariel Helwani last week Dana White said that the UFC would hold a press conference this week to clear up Lesnar’s future. Apparently those plans have changed. Lesnar is now scheduled to appear on ESPN’s Sportscenter tomorrow.

Instead, Lesnar is scheduled to appear on “SportsCenter,” where he’s expected to give an update on his health status and a timetable for a possible return. Both White and Lesnar’s camp have been tight-lipped about the illness in recent months. However, Lesnar’s trainer, Greg Nelson, told MMAjunkie.com earlier this month that Lesnar “will fight again,” though a timetable wasn’t known.

I would assume the news on Lesnar is positive at this point. The UFC brass wouldn’t trot him out on television if he didn’t have good news. It’s a smart move by the UFC here. Lesnar and the UFC have been out of the spotlight recently due to a lack of marquee cards. By having Lesnar appear on T.V. it’ll help get the buzz back as well as promote UFC 109.
