Condit Out of 108, Daley Has Harsh Words

If I was Dana White, I would curl up in the corner and cry. The best laid plans of mice and men continue to go awry for White and the UFC, as yet another injury has crippled the UFC 108 card. From MMA Unltd:

Carlos Condit has suffered an injury and has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 108 contest against hard-hitting Brit Paul Daley, MMAUnltd.com has learned from a source close to the contest.

We were told that a replacement is being sought for the event on January 2nd.

Condit is one my favorite “action” fighters. He’s nicknamed “The Natural Born Killer” for a reason. He possesses great standup and a decent enough ground game to compete in the UFC welterweight division. With this win over Daley, he could have gained some traction to start fighting tougher opponents, but now that has to wait.

Speaking of Daley, check out what he told Bloody Elbow about Condit:

“I’d [accept] any fight.. I just wanna fight. Condit is a big pussy IMO, I have inside information on that dude….it’s all good as long as I fight,” he wrote, a comment that is sure to enrage former WEC welterweight champion Condit.

And….you’re a moron. Daley has great standup and showed it against Martin Kampmann at UFC 103. Not to mention that his nickname, “Semtex” is also the name of my favorite grenade in Modern Warfare 2. However, I just can’t get on board with people telling people who are hurt that they are less than a man. At some point, Daley is going to have pull out of a fight, and I fully plan on turning this back around on him.

Sam Bradford’s Hurt Again; What Happens Now?

We might be about to see one of the greatest NFL draft experiments ever unfold.

We are stuck in a college season where we are seriously considering calling Jake Locker the best quarterback available. Every potential “franchise” signal caller was fallen flat on their face, and the ones that have been good are not NFL-type players.

What we do have is one of those potential franchise guys who hasn’t played badly. That’s cause he hasn’t played. Sam Bradford has now separated his throwing shoulder and now reinjured it today against Texas. What will this do to his draft stock? Well, that doesn’t depend on him as much as it does on all the other QBs stepping up and pushing him down the board.

Let’s look at what he have so far from all the potential 1st Round QBs this year:

  • Jevan Snead, Ole Miss – 46.8 Completion Percentage, 9 TDs, 9 INTs. He’s been awful.
  • Colt McCoy , Texas – 73.8 Completion Percentage, 10 TDs, 6 INTs, and even more questions about his potential as an NFL QB. Does he have the tools? Can he learn a pro offense? Can he succeed when he isn’t the best athlete on the field?
  • Tim Tebow, Florida – 65.5 Completion Percentage, 7 TDs, 2 INTs; Had concussion earlier in the year. His play style has not suited the NFL anymore this year than it did last year. The arguement is well stated, but to quote 49ers beat writer Matt Maiacco “This kid is a winner doesn’t translate to the NFL.”
  • Jake Locker, Washington – 57.1 Completion Percentage, 10 TDs, 4 INTs. Probably the best prospect of all of these, but I don’t know if he has great tools eithier. However, his knowledge of Steve Sarkasian’s pro style system give him an edge.
  • Sam Bradford, Oklahoma – 58.7 Completion Percentage, 2 TDs, 0 INTs. Two shoulder injuries this season. Separated his shoulder in the first game of the year, and just reinjured today against Texas. Severity unknown.

So, out of all those guys, who would you put ahead of Bradford? There are teams out there like the Panthers (who don’t have a first round pick), 49ers, Browns, and Seahawks that are going to be looking into QBs. Will we see another player like Alex Smith get pushed up the board, or has the league learned from the 49ers mistake? Is it possible that we could see Eric Berry or Taylor Mays be the first overall pick? Will Tim Tebow go first overall? (God help me if that happens.)

This could get very interesting.

TUF 10 Team Rampage Board Shorts!

Yesterday, we brought you the Team Rashad version, and now it’s time for the former fighter turned actor that’s playing Mr. T in a movie’s teams turn. Yes, that sentence was stupidly confusing on purpose, because that’s how thinking about Rampage makes my head feel right now.

Again, the color schemes are awesome. The logos are the same as on Rashad’s version.

It still runs 64.99 on MMA Warehouse.

Perry Wows at Travelers

Its been a fun year to watch Kenny Perry play golf. Seven top ten finishes, a victory at the FBR Open, and nearly his first major championship at Augusta in April. But perhaps his most impressive showing came yesterday when he finished up a brilliant week of golf with a win at the Travelers Championship.

Coming into the day one shot back of Paul Goydos, Perry put together a confident seven under, 63 to win by three. The win shot Perry into first place on the FedEx cup leader board and a piece of Travelers Championship history. His winning week number, 258, was the lowest any player has ever shot in the history of the tournament.

Despite the fact that the Sunday sun did not rise with Perry leading, by the time CBS’s TV coverage began at 3pm it wasn’t difficult to see that Perry would be hard to beat. As it turned out, besting the 48 year old proved a nearly impossible task. He sank almost every putt he attempted, long and short, and birdied seven holes. Perry’s round was a perfect example of how to win a tournament like this. Putt well, make par, and let the field crumble around you.

No one really crumbled today. In fact, this is a rare week where I will not give out a choke of the week. A few players played good enough to win. But Perry was unreal. David Toms crept up the leader board and tied for second. He, like Perry, failed to bogey a hole. But he parred to many holes to make that final leap towards first, especially with Perry playing as well as he was. Tom birdied four of the final nine holes, but only one before the turn…not quite enough.

Paul Goydos had to play perfect to hold of Perry. He shot himself in the foot with a bogey on 8 and 10. An eagle of 15 moved him from ninth place into a tie for second, but catching Perry was pie in the sky by that point.

A lot of times in golf, the story is about who lost it, rather than who won. And why not? Generally, it’s easier to criticize then to praise. Theirs only so Manny “atta-boy’s” you can throw out, but seeming an unlimited amount of hypothetical scenarios for the losers. But the story today is no doubt Keny Perry’s day. Was it a Brian Gay-eske crushing? No. But was it a relative certainty that Perry was going to win for most of the day? Yes. He didn’t need a lot of help. He didn’t need anyone to wilt under pressure to win this tournament. Often times, you won’t get a big time collapse in a tournament like The Travelers in Hartford Connecticut. After all, it’s not the Masters.

But it might as well been for Kenny Perry.

Next stop on Tour: AT&T National- The defending champ in this one is Anthony Kim. He returns to defend his crown. Kim’s best finish this year came at the Mercedes-Benz championship when he tied for second. Other big names include U.S Open champion Lucas Glover, Davis Love III, Fred Couples, Jum Furyk, Roco Mediate, Paul Goydos… and the biggest draw in all the land, Tiger Wood.

It’s a Tiger week! Should be fun as we get set for the British 2 weeks from now.
