UFC 2010: Undisputed – Full B.J. Penn Trailer Second-by-Second Breakdown

While it’s a really cool video, and B.J.’s narration definitely gets you seriously pumped up, I’m a little bit upset that we didn’t get a little bit more gameplay. There are a few things that I noticed:

  • In the first bit of gameplay, B.J. lands a really nasty looking takedown. You can tell the animations have improved from last year, where every double leg looked the same.
  • The second gameplay bit shows B.J. trainsitioning to rubber guard, and this also appears to be reanimated. It also could be him setting up for a triangle as well.
  • The third gameplay shot shows B.J. throwing bombs from back mount. Correct me If I’m wrong, but I don’t think that was an option last year, as any thing you had the opponent back, you rolled him over to attempt a rear naked choke.
  • We get to see some of B.J.’s signature style next with the arm trap against Matt Hughes. It looks awesome. Enough said. I can you tell you right now that Jason’s CAF will have that ability.
  • Next up, we see B.J. in his UFC 107 Walkout Shirt, wearing the belt in game. Was the belt redesigned? I’m thinking maybe. All I know, is that it looks shiny and It makes me want it around my waist. The shirt looks exactly like it’s real life counterpart.
  • The Kenny Florian section shows some B.J. pressing Kenny up against the cage, and generally kicking his ass all over the octagon. Just reminds me what a big letdown Kenny’s gameplan in that fight was.
  • The rest of the video shows off the redesigned clinch, but is hard to tell the difference from two brief seconds of gameplay. It also B.J. slipping a punch which looks slick.

Not the massive reveal that I hoped it would be, but I’m definitely pumped for May 25th even more now.

WEC 47: Fight of the Night: Garcia v. Roop

Two former UFC lightweights fight on a WEC card at 145 and tear the roof down. The only problem? It ends in a split draw. Check this two-parter out. You won’t regret it.

Prospect Watch: Gunnar Nelson

A few days ago, we posted an interview the always excellent Jordan Breen did with our local favorite MMA prospect Gian Villante. The other guy that he interviewed on that same show was Gunnar Nelson. Gunnar is a young BJJ fighter with a black belt under Renzo Gracie and a win to his credit over Jiu-Jitsu expert Jeff Monson who is a heavyweight. Gunnar fights at 170. So, yea, he’s good. Here is video of his latest fight. Most of the vid is just hype, because the fight ends pretty quickly.

Rampage In Nike’s Newest Commercial

Once again, an MMA Star is becoming a viable advertising asset.

Human Chain from NikeSportswear on Vimeo.

Let’s take this moment to think about how far we’ve come. Rampage appears in this commercial alongside LaDanian Tomlinson and Lance Armstrong. If that’s not mainstream I just don’t know what is.

Rampage is back in the cage at UFC 114 against Rashad Evans.

Breaking Down Ronnie’s Jersey Shore Brawl: MMA Style

Something funny happens when you live every single day of your life covering MMA. You begin looking at every fight you see like it’s in a cage and people are trained fighters. When we saw Rick Porcello chuck Kevin Youkilis to the floor, Jason called it what it was: A judo throw. When Jorge Posada fought earlier in the year, I got a ton of crap for commenting on his unintentional sprawl.

Now, it seems like I see fights just about every week. No, I’m not talking about my raucous social life. I’m talking about MTV’s latest hit show Jersey Shore. While most of the fights get broken up pretty quickly, I was really impressed with something that happened on last week’s episode. Check out Ronnie’s skills in this little brawl:

Now, let’s take a look at what happens in this one. After the punk guy hides behind his girlfriend for about 30 seconds, Ronnie drops his quickly. Now, besides the terrible footwork, he manages to drop the guy pretty easily. After grabbing his head, Ronnie throws a pretty mean looking knee to the dome. Then, he falls into what I’m gonna call “Drunken Full Mount.” He lands some shots, but the punk guy does a good job controlling him from the bottom. What Ronnie should have done was postured up and really rained down some heavy blows.

I’m sure there will another fight on the show next week. Maybe we’ll make this a weekly thing.

Dan Hardy Is Crazy….

I’m actually beginning to like The Outlaw. He’s a little nuts, which I can respect because I’m a couple cans short of a six pack by nature. He’s got an absurd belief in himself, which I can appreciate because I am the Lex Luthor of my own little world. However, when you refer to yourself as “Georges St. Pierre’s Kryptonite” you’ve blown a gasket. Here’s the Q&A session from UFC 107 in Memphis, courtesy of AOL Fanhouse.

Sorry, Dan. Unless you are packing actual kryptonite in those gloves, you don’t stand a chance.
