The TV ratings juggernaut that is Kimbo Slice could become to the Versus Channel real soon. From Watch Kalib Run:
Sneaked neatly at the end of a report coming from MMA Junkie was the rumor that Kimbo Slice could fight on Versus on March 21st in Denver, Colorado.
No word on a possible opponent for the ratings bonanza that is Kimbo Slice
For those who are confused about Slice’s possible presence on Versus here is a quick history lesson.
Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC and the WEC, which previously had a deal with Versus, recently renewed their contract with the Comcast owned sports station. Part of that new deal was Versus grabbing the right to broadcast two live UFC events in 2010. The UFC promptly scheduled top light heavyweight prospect Jon Jones and Brandon Vera to fight on March 21st for the first ever UFC event to be broadcast on Versus.
The presence of Kimbo Slice may indicate that both Zuffa and Versus want a strong showing for the inaugural broadcast though WKR isn’t so sure that putting Kimbo Slice in a fight at altitude is a smart idea.
Here is the biggest problem: Who would they be able to put Kimbo against and have him be the favorite? There aren’t many, if any, heavyweights that would be underdogs against Slice.
For those who want to talk about Boxer James Toney taking on Kimbo, it would be pretty soon for Toney to get into the octagon. Considering he doesn’t know what checking kicks is, Kimbo would probably be the favorite.
