Stock Up
- Kenny Florian – Wow. That didn’t even look like the same guy that fought B.J. Penn. The thing that I was most impressed with wasn’t the elbow that cut Guida, or the punch that finished him. It was the takedown defense that stuffed three of “The Carpenter’s” takedowns. Florian was aggressive and smart, and really improved his game.
- Mike Pierce – Well done. He may not have won, but he stood in there with Jon Fitch. He showed good boxing for a guy who is just picking it up. Like Joe Rogan said, his future may be at 155, but I was really impressed by his performance.
- Frank Mir – So, think Frank Mir put all the doubters away? He showed great boxing and finished the choke in a position that shouldn’t work. As soon as he won, Twitter blew up wanting Mir to fight Lesnar all over again. Could Mir beat Lesnar now that he is at 265? Maybe…
- B.J. Penn – What can you say? Penn is just in a different world than everyone else at 155. I don’t even have words for how impressive he was. Boxing, wrestling, and a kick that made me wince. Just wow.
Stock Down
- Clay Guida – 5-5. Guida is a fan favorite, he’s a fun personality, and he is an overachiever, but how much longer can he stay around if he continues to fight at a .500 clip? Guida really needs to improve his standup if he wants to become a championship level fighter. If he doesn’t, not even Greg Jackson can save him.
- Jon Fitch – We walked into this fight talking about Fitch being a pound-for-pound top ten guy. Now, what do we have to say about a guy who went to decision with Mike Pierce? I know that Fitch always goes to decision, but he was roughed up a little bit in that fight. He needs to bounce back strong in his next fight.
- Diego Sanchez - Besides making a bunch of “NO!” jokes, you saw the truth of the whole situation: B.J. is just light years away from everyone at 155. He tried to stand, and Penn countered every single time. He tried to get takedowns, and B.J. sprawled every single time. What was left? To just go down, and Sanchez did.
