UFC 108: Now Sherk's Out?[Updated]

Could the 108 curse be continuing? From The Northwest Indiana Times:

The injury bug continues to bite the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Former lightweight champion Sean Sherk has suffered an injury and will not fight on the Jan. 2 UFC 108 card, The Times learned Thursday from sources close to Sherk’s camp.

Sherk reportedly was scheduled to fight Jim Miller, though the bout had not yet officially been announced by the organization.

Ironically, Sherk was replacing Tyson Griffin, who just last week was forced off the card with an injury of his own.

It is not yet known if the loss of Sherk on the main card will mean the organization will look for a new opponent for Miller or if he will be scrapped from the card, as well.

Can’t believe I just blockquoted something from the Northwest Indiana Times.

If Sherk is out, there is just almost nothing redeeming about this card. I actually feel terrible for Dana White. Another thing to think about is this: Is Sherk really hurt, or has he pulled out because he won’t pass a steroids test? He was caught once before, but I’d like to beleive that he’s really hurt.

We’ll update this story as we find out more.

UPDATE: It’s official. He’s out with a cut over his eye according to Josh Gross’ Twitter. According to MMA Weekly, his replacement will be Duane Ludwig. Just for good measure, here is a picture of the cut from Sherdog:

“Jersey Shore” Woman Beater Gets His…

Since the next episode of Jersey Shore is on tonight, let’s take a look at a video that had the internet abuzz for about two weeks.

Well, I couldn’t find one that wasn’t incredibly disrespectful or tasteless, but by now I’m sure you’ve heard that MTV is pulling a scene off of Jersey Shore where “Snooki” gets punched in the face by a guy can be cateogorized as a giant douche bag.

Anyway, here’s where we come in, bringing you this video link from the ever so wonderful TMZ.com.

What’s through this magical door? None other than the dude that knocked out in what appears to be an “underground” MMA fight. Not to mention since the guy lives in New York, this was illegal. Just saying. Personally, I say we throw him in against Fedor and see what happens.

Two lessons to be learned here. First off, punching chicks in the face is a bad idea, especially if you do it on national television. Second of all, if you do decide that it’s the way to go, then be prepared for every little detail about your life to come out. Including videos where some dude knocks you the fuck out.

Oh and don’t take part in an MMA fight that is in someones basement. Get in a real gym and get on a legit MMA card. It’s not that hard to do.

Life Is Too Short

Today is a sad day. Chris Henry didn’t always make the right choices in life but he was trying to change. That’s why today is a sad day.

YouTube Preview Image

Henry’s career was littered with problems off the field. He argued with everyone from teammates to parking attendants and had many brushes with law enforcement. Maybe he didn’t deserve the third and fourth chances he got in Cincinati but at age 26 he was finally putting it all together. He spoke to area youth groups warning children not to make the same mistakes he did. Its a shame that it took him so long to take his own advice.

What we can learn from the life and death of Chris Henry is that when given a natural ability – wether it be athletic, artistic or intellectual- you can’t waste it. Life is far too short.

Redden Scratched Tonight

Christmas – and Zach’s birthday, for that matter – isn’t until next week. But this news will surely make Zach feel like it’s Christmas morning. Rangers coach John Tortorella is putting Wade Redden, the $39 million man, in what might be his natural position – in the press box as a healthy scratch.

Is it the right move? Hard to say. But you cannot possibly argue that it’s the wrong one. The Rangers allowed Islanders fans to take over the Coliseum last night. Usually, it’s the other way around; tonight, it may very well be the other way around. But it’s clear that the Rangers need to shake things up, and this is one way to achieve that goal. Besides, maybe they’ll actually play better without an ineffective Redden taking up valuable ice time.

No matter what you think of the Rangers or this move, it’s clear that this has been a long time coming. Hell, it probably should have occurred twelve months ago. You’d think the Rangers would dump a guy like Redden before dumping Tortorella, but Glen Sather isn’t exactly forthright about admitting his mistakes. The Rangers have a golden opportunity to right the ship in a game against their hated rivals, just 24 hours after being embarrassed on home ice by those same Islanders. If they can’t get up for this one, maybe it’s time to replace Redden AND Tortorella.

Redskins Fans Rejoice!

Its a wonderful morning if you are a Redskin fan as Pro FootballTalk is reporting that Vinny Cerrato has resigned.

We know Synder is looking to make a splash and we know Jim Zorn already has one and half feet out the door so the rumors are obviously going to be coming in fast and furious. Is Holmgren next?

The timing seems to point to this as a legit possibility. Did Synder want Holmgren as his football czar and needed to snatch him up before Cleavland did? Regardless, we know a big move is next. Synder is going make a splash and its going to be Holmgren, Shanahan or Cowher. Today is a good day to be a Redskin fan and a bad day to be Jim Zorn.
