I wrote yesterday about how I’ve been falling asleep with ESPN on. Recently without fail there’s some NFL news story that seems be waking me up every day. Coordinators are getting fired and big name players are getting traded.
With that being said I’ve got a strange feeling that when I wake up Brandon Marshall will be a Jet.
Call it a gut feeling but the pieces seem to be adding up:
- The Jets having a glaring hole at WR and Marshall would solve that problem. He would not only stretch the field for the Jets but, give them a WR who can run after the catch. Also, having a big target for rookie QB Mark Sanchez is a plus. Marshall, Keller, Cotchery, Washington…all of a sudden that’s a tough offense to deal with.
- The Jets seem to have no qualms with trading future draft picks to land a big time player. Farve, Lito Sheppard and so on. Woody Johnson also seems to have an infatuation with the “star” player.
- The Jets made a seemingly bizarre trade today, they traded a future draft pick for QB Kevin O’Connell. It’s not that O’Connell isn’t a good player, the former 3rd rounder waived by the Pats is a hot commodity around the NFL. What’s bizarre is that the Jets now have 4 QB’s on their roster (Sanchez, Clemens, Ainge, O’Connell.) Why would a team carry 4 QB’s, let alone 4 developmental QB’s. It’s a move that doesn’t seem to make sense unless another move followed it.
- What if the Jets got O’Connell to trade to the Broncos? We know O’Connell was coached by Josh McDaniels in New England, we know that McDaniels doesn’t seem to be sold on Kyle Orton long term and we know that the Broncos put in a waiver claim for O’Connell.
- We also know that McDaniels and Marshall aren’t on good terms. The Cutler trade taught us to expect the unexpected from Denver.
- And then there’s Kerry Rhodes Twitter. Yes, Twitter. Rhodes has been saying a big announcement is coming, even going as far as to hint as a Marshall acquisition. Rhodes last Tweet was “”Sorry 4 the hold up fans but this stuff sometime takes time but just stay tuned u will find out soon. Not trying to hold u guys in limbo!”" It’s a crazy world we live in that Twitter has to be considered a legitimate news source. After all just days ago Chad Ocho Cinco broke the Andre Smith story before ESPN, or anyone else, had it.
Again the stars seem to be aligning. The trade makes sense for both sides and we know that both teams have had Marshall discussions. I get the feeling that when I wake up Brandon Marshall will be a Jet.
