Say what you will about A-Rod but when he got caught using steroids no one protected him. Why Big Pa-PED (kudos to Bald Vinny) gets a talking head from the MLB Players association and A-Rod doesn’t is beyond me. Why no one on ESPN has yet to question the legitimacy of Ortiz’s statement is beyond me. Why is everyone going to bat for a guy that is clearly lying about his use of steroids? I guess it’s just some fluke that he hit 20 homers in 2002 and 56 in 2006, my B.
Going to the stadium for Yankees/Red Sox today. The Yanks are 4.5 games up now and a win today might bury the Sox for the season. Sabathia against Bucholz! I am pumped to chant steroids at Ortiz every single time he’s at bat.

Mike,
I actually agree with you. I hate talking about steroids in baseball. Truth is my statements were made simply out of frustration.
Sosa, A-Rod and everyone else were left high and dry by the players association when it came to the media coverage of their steroid use. In fact a reporter actually posed this question to Weiner and of course he carefully danced around it. Conveniently Papi and Ortiz weren’t mentioned in the Mitchell Report while about 800 Yankees were. Conveniently George Mitchell has ties to the Red Sox. It’s frustrating on a level that’s more then just being a Yankee or Baseball fan, at least to me. It’s about a team, the Red Sox, and it’s players clearly receiving special treatment from the MLB, Bud Selig and ESPN. To me it transcends sports.
I’ll get off my soapbox now.
Reply to Jason ComackThe whole steroid situation is ridiculous. Who cares if Papi has someone to his defense and another doesnt? Does Wiener being make anybody believe Papi? No. He did steroids and so did lots of players. Who cares his excuse and who cares who is sitting next to him. He did steroids. Thats it.
The more we focus on it and talk about it, the blacker the cloud gets that is already above the sport of baseball.
Possibly 60% of the players who have played in the major leagues over the past 10 years did steroids, possible more, and hopefully less, but probably not. They were on our teams and our rivals. Chanting steroids at any player is hypocritical, especially when your 3rd basemen and 3rd starter have both used (and probably more for all we know).
Who cares anymore? Papi had someone there to help him. Who cares. He is an idiot. Boo him because he is a Red Sock, not because he did steroids, because if thats the reason youre booing, you gotta boo more than just him.
I think we can all agree Weiner should be booed, but thats a whole other story.
