Fitch v. Almeida Lined Up For UFC 106…

Ricardo Almeida dominated Kendall Grove at UFC 101, but had already decided that he was going to make the move to the welterweight before the fight.

Well, he certainly isn’t getting eased into the division as he will be taking on 3rd String Safety favorite Jon Fitch on Nov. 21. Both of these fighters feature excellent ground games, as Fitch possesses excellent wrestling and a devastating top game, while Almeida is a BJJ monster and can submit opponents off his back.

For a long time, Jason and I have agreed that Fitch is likely the number two welterweight in the UFC, and the only other guy that is close is his American Kickboxing Academy teammate Josh Koscheck. While Almeida is a strong fighter, I can’t see him overtaking Fitch. The main reason is that Fitch does possess a black belt in Guerilla Jiu-Jitsu, which is an art that combines Judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He can use that to offset some of Alemida’s strengths.

Look for Fitch to come out of UFC 106 victorious.

You beat me to this one. Really looking forward to this fight but I think we know the outcome already. Fitch dominated Paulo Thiago who is a similar fighter to Alemdia. Surprised they gave Almedia such a tough fight his first time at 170.
