Wow, the fact that anyone in any major sport is still being caught for steroids is amazing to me. Here’s the story from Rotoworld:
NFL suspended Jets OLB Calvin Pace four games for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.
It’s a big blow to the Jets’ defense. Pace is New York’s top pass rusher, and early impressions of backup Vernon Gholston’s second offseason aren’t promising. Pace will be eligible to return in Week 5 against the Dolphins. Flexible coach Rex Ryan could adjust by using Bart Scott and Bryan Thomas outside with Jamaal Westerman and David Harris inside during Pace’s time off. It’s either that or Gholston is going to have to play a lot early in the season.
Pace later came out with a statement that was the basic athlete denial where he claims that he didn’t know what he took was illegal, like anyone believes that at this point in the game. There is a hotline that NFL players can call to find out if what they are going to take is on the banned substance list. I’m still wondering when an athlete is just going to say “Shit, you caught me.”
As for the Jets, this really puts them in a position where they are kinda screwed for the first four games. They play Houston, New England, Tennessee and New Orleans. Three of those first four games are against pretty damn good offenses. They now have to play uber-bust Vernon Gholston against all of those teams.
