Let me start by explaining the meaning of the last word of the title of this post. It means that none of what I’m about to post has been confirmed and most likely are idea being thrown around right now that somehow leaked out of the UFC hierarchy. Then again, they could be completely made up. Nonetheless, It’s fun to talk about, so let’s look at what InsideFights is claiming could happen on September 19th.
A heavyweight contenders fight between prospects Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez could serve as the co-main event for UFC 103 on September 19th in Dallas, sources have told Inside Fights.
More sheer brilliance by Joe Silva. These are the two prospects that everyone has been talking about getting a shot at the upper echelon guys. Both are undefeated and should make a great fight. No matter what one of them will come out undefeated and get a shot at the winner of Lesnar and Mir.
Should be an interesting match. Both are ground and pound experts, but I believe that Velasquez’s lack of knockout power might put him at a huge disadvantage.
The bout, which has not been agreed to, could potentially serve as the co-main event alongside a welterweight bout between Texas native Mike Swick and future UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes…A win by Swick would make him the number one contender to Georges St. Pierre’s welterweight championship.
Dana and Joe must read my blog. I’ve been calling for a shot for Swick to to get a chance to step up his game and now he will get it against Hughes. While old, and certainly not what he once was, Hughes is still considered a contender. I think that Swick’s drastic striking advantage would win out over Hughes wrestling.
Another fight that has been discussed internally is Chuck Liddell facing Rich Franklin. Dana White has seemingly accepted the idea that Chuck is going to want another fight, and he would much rather have Liddell inside the UFC cage than to have him go and be a huge drawing card for Strikeforce or Affliction.
See, this one makes me nervous. I said a long time ago that I think that Liddell should retire. Since he is past his prime, and Franklin is still getting his feet wet at 205, this matchup would HAVE to be Chuck’s last if he lost. It would make the UFC an absolute ton of money if it happened though.
