Here’s the news from MMAweekly:
A lightweight contest between former contender Hermes Franca and Xtreme Couture standout Tyson Griffin is expected to take place at UFC 103 in September.
Multiple sources informed MMAWeekly.com that both parties have agreed to the fight and bout agreements should be signed shortly.
UFC 103 is set for Sept. 19 in Dallas, Texas, though the event and its venue have yet to be officially announced by the promotion
This is a great fight in what is quickly becoming my favorite division in the whole UFC. Griffin is an up and coming superstar who is coming off a win over Rafael Dos Anjos in April, but in his last big fight, he was defeated by an aging Sean Sherk. Griffin needs this win to reconfirm that he is ready to fight the elite in his division.
As for Franca, he is coming off a win against Marcus Aureilo at UFC 90, but before that he lost to both Sherk and Frankie Edgar. While both are top fighters, two losses in a row is never a good thing for any UFC fighter, even if he his a veteran.
This is going to be an important fight for both fighters’ careers, and should be an excellent addition to a card that already features Josh Koscheck going up against Frank Trigg and Cole Miller versus Efrain Escudero.
