Straight from the Boys over at PFT:
Former Cowboys linebacker/defensive end Greg Ellis, whom some linked to the Patriots because: (1) he can play outside linebacker in the 3-4; and (2) he’s over 30, will sign with the Raiders, according to Calvin Watkins of FanHouse.
It’s a three-year deal, and it’ll be signed later today.
It’s not shocking that Ellis signed with the Raiders. He fits a defensive system that runs the 3-4 and is in desperate need of outside pass rushing. And he’s old. The Raiders just love old players.
However, It’s the length of the contract that really gets to me. While contracts aren’t guaranteed in football and Ellis can be cut at just about any time, There will be more money tied up in a three year deal than a one year deal.
Why did they pony up those extra years to a guy that is 33 years old? We’re there really teams knocking at the door to sign Ellis? Somehow I don’t think so.
More wondrous management by the Raiders.
