What I Learned From The Giants-Browns Fiasco…

1) Success is not forever, and Failure is not fatal - Don Shula

That piece of advice from the greatest NFL coach of all time applies to all walks of life. I’m sure that all of us have had moments where we need to hear things like that quote. Tonight, The New York Giants found out how the other half lives, and I’m dedicating that quote to them.

2) Eli Manning isn’t better than Peyton Manning

Somewhere during their 35th hour of pre-game coverage, ESPN did a sportsnation poll in which 51% of the nation said that Eli was the superior player. C’mon people. Let’s not be crazy. Sure, Peyton has been hurt and struggled pretty consistently throughout the 1st quarter of the season, but he also deserves the benefit of the doubt. Peyton doesn’t throw that pick six at the end of the game.

3) That being said, Don’t Jump Off the Eli Bandwagon.

What was my response at the end of the game? Was I Throwing things? Was I screaming? Nope. I said “Well, this isn’t the last time in his career that he’ll throw three interceptions.” I mean it too. He’s a real good quarterback who had a bad day. Until he proves otherwise, that’s my story.

4) Derek Anderson might never play that well again.

I just slowed down the game and watched it again. I thought that the Giants defense was consistently terrible throughout when I watched it live. Turns out that a lot of the success of the Browns offense came directly from DA. He did an absolutely spectacular job of identifying blitzes and throwing past them. Braylon Edwards said after the game that DA was the best QB in the league on monday.

5) The Giants are still in first place.

At 4-1, New York didn’t place the kind of space inbetween themselves and Dallas that I would have liked, but at the same time, it didn’t hurt them all that much eithier. Jason said before the game got out of hand that even if we lost that it was a trap game and that they happen. While we normally disagree, I think he’s right on that one. Put it behind you, and trudge on ahead.

6) Wanna hear the good news?

It’s only five days until Sunday.
