Well, ain’t that some ish.
A rather mediocre card was salvaged by what is now an instant classic, and shocking, main event.
Your new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion is Forrest Griffin and if I didn’t see it with my own eyes I wouldn’t believe it. Griffin, throughout the first two rounds, peppered Jackson with legs kick. At the beginning of the second round you could see Rampages leg buckle from the kicks. Rampage was dominated during the second round (a 10-8 round I had scored for Griffin) and it seemed as if he would be unable to continue due to a knee injury. Jackson did bounce back and in my opinion took the third and fourth rounds. Going into the fifth round on my scorecard the fight was up for grabs. However, Forrest did win the fifth and final round convincingly.
If your looking for controversy and debate over this fight I’m sure you’ll find plenty. I ended up scoring the fight a draw.
Jason Comack Scorecard
Round 1: 10-9 Jackson
Round 2: 10-8 Griffin
Round 3: 10-9 Jackson
Round 4: 10-9 Jackson
Round 5: 10-9 Griffin
47 - 47 Draw
Round 1 was clearly Jacksons. Round 2 and 5 were clearly Griffins. Round 2 I believe was a 10-8 round but not all may agree. Round 3 and 4 could have gone either way.
When looking at the fight from a full fight perspective (ignoring round by round scoring) I think it’s clear Forrest won. However, since the UFC uses round by round scoring I believe the fight was a draw.
I’m not alone in this opinion.

The official judges score the bout 48-46, 48-46 and 49-46 for Forrest Griffin. Have to say I disagree.
Also on the card:
Ricardo Almedia V Patrick Cote Sucked. This was really a number one contenders fight? Silva can tool both these guys in his sleep.
Koscheck looked very impressive, but that’s no surprsise. I don’t see him ever beating GSP. He’s the Rich Franklin of 170 LBS.
Tibau and Auerlio disappointed me. I honestly thought both of those fights would be a hell of a lot better. Can’t believe Auerlio is the same person who chocked out Gomi. As far as Tyson “The Other Griffin” goes, well, he’s eventually going to have to stop and opponent to show he’s ready for the next level.
Fight of the night was apparently Jorge Grugel V Cole Miller. It didn’t get show because it was on the underard. I’m sure it will make it’s way to a fight night soon.
In closing a poor card was saved by a classic main event.
And remember…
