Things to be Excited About: NBA 2k9

NBA2k9 is receiving excellent reviews. Now, last year the game received a 7.9 from IGN and I’m pretty sure that it was the best basketball game that I’ve ever played. However, I’m sure that this year’s incarnation will top it as it received an 8.5 from IGN, and for those of you who haven’t been paying attention, getting an 8.5 from IGN now is like getting a 9.5 three years ago. This is a blessing from God, as I’ve played the demo of NBA Live ‘09, and for the umteenth year in a row, it sucks.
One feature that I find incredibly interesting is the idea of living rosters. This has found it’s way into both NBA2k9 and Live ‘09. The idea is that the rosters update every single day and reflect both hot and cold streaks that happen in real life. I’m not quite sure how I feel about this, as I dont really know if I want to factor which teams are hot into my decision on who to beat Jason with routinely. Here’s a video from IGN to further explain the concept.

While I’m sure that the game is excellent, I’ll be interested to see how the new rosters will work. NBA2k9 is coming out today! Unfortunately, Neither Jason or I current have an Xbox 360 as both of us got the dreaded Red Rings of Death at the same time.
Which leads to a tangent: I still believe that the Xbox 360 is the greatest consumer electronics purchase that I’ve ever made, but I can’t help but wonder if Microsoft won’t learn it’s lesson from all these repairs. They would make more money if they just made the system sturdier and didn’t have to worry about paying all the shipping costs to send everyones system to Texas for Repairs.
