Reports: Eli’s New Deal is Huge

Straight from the people of Rotoworld.com:
According to the Bergen Record, the Giants are working on a contract extension for Eli Manning that would surpass the seven-year, $99.2 million deal given to his brother Peyton.
Peyton’s deal also included a $34.5 million signing bonus. Eli is under contract until 2009, but rumors are the Giants want a deal done by the end of the season. The newspaper says “Eli Manning will be a Giant for life.”
I can hear Jason screaming that he’s not worth it already. Sure, I think that we all know that Eli is considered amongst the best in the game at this moment, but even the most overzealous Giant fan would be lying to himself if he was to say that he is sure that Eli will remain there over the full 16 games. He’s always struggled as the weather got cold (except for Green Bay) and he started last season on a comparable hot streak to this one. So, is the new deal worth it?
Yup. Here’s why: Eli is the new face of the Giants. He is the most important person on the offense, as he showed you last week, and he is the unquestioned leader of a team that is currently tearing up the entire world. With him as your quarterback, and a Smart GM like Jerry Reese, there is a thought that you could be competitive for a decade. It’s not out of the question either.
I’m gonna go on record and say that I’m 85 percent sure that Horrible Eli is gone. That doesn’t mean that he’ll be super human each game, and it doesn’t mean that he won’t throw 3 picks once or twice a season. It just means that from here on out, it’s gonna be hard to say that the negative’s outweigh the positives.
So, with Eli locked up, the attention once again turns to The Juggernaut, Brandon Jacobs. Should the Giants re-sign him? Even if they don’t, Giants fans have to feel better that they know that they have a quality quarterback at the helm for the next ten years.
