Eagles/Giants Matchups - Revisited

A few weeks ago, I wrote a series of articles about all of the Matchups between the Giants and Eagles. Since I really don’t feel like writing new versions of something that I already did, I will now review what I wrote, and adjust them for this week’s game.
Match-up #1 - Giants WR Plaxico Burress v. Eagles CB Asante Samuel
Sigh. I don’t really feel like talking about this anymore, so let’s just say that Samuel won’t have his hands nearly as full. Well, We’re actually not sure that Samuel will play eithier. Let’s just call this one a wash.
Matchup #2 - Giants Interior D-Line v. Eagles Interior O-Line
Well, this one has actually gotten very interesting since the last game. The Eagles still don’t have Shawn Andrews back, and his back-up Max Jean-Gilles is now out for the season. We are probably looking at Mike McGlynn, a rookie starting in his place. (If I’m wrong, and you can prove it, post it in the comments. I’m just looking at the Eagles Depth Chart.)
On the other side, there is questions if Fred Robbins is going to play. Robbins has played as well as any DT in the league this season, but Jay Alford played very well in his place. I think that the Eagles O-Line is in a heap o’trouble.
Advantage: Giants.
Match-up #3 - Giants DB Aaron Ross v. Eagles WR DeSean Jackson
Ok, here is the one that is clearly the most important. For years, the Eagles have relied on Brian Westbrook for most of their offense. During the Giant game, Andy Reid did something absolutely brillant. He used DeSean Jackson as the center of his offense. He got him the ball in space, he threw it to him, handed to him and had him return punts and kicks. It worked brillantly. Jackson scored a touchdown and kept the Giants D on their heels all night.
Aaron Ross didn’t play poorly against Jackson, but certainly didn’t excel eithier. The Eagles moved Jackson around so much that Ross didn’t follow him around most of the game. Ross has been playing much better over the last few weeks and is back to the form that made him one of the league’s top defensive rookies last year. That being said, Jackson will run all over the Giants D again this week.
Advantage: Eagles
